A Nostalgic Look at Harry Potter

CNN has this great article about the Harry Potter movie franchise that has a one on one conversation with some of the actors.

It's very nostalgic... like black and white photography. But in the wizarding world nostalgic is an old Shooting Star broom.

There's also some video footage if you're interested, right above the article.

Harry Potter Is Naked?

Filming is underway for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and director David Yates was asked to comment on the rumors about Daniel Radcliffe being naked in the last movie he said"
"Daniel Radcliffe appears naked in one scene where Harry and Ron are fighting a magical creature, who fled to confuse and create a vision. In the view we see Harry and a woman embracing and kissing. It’s an intriguing scene and very sensual. "

Things are getting a little risque over at Hogwarts!

Benedictine monk says HP is OK

There have been some resenters of Harry Potter from some religious communities, putting Harry Potter and many banned books lists, but a Benedictime monk doesn't agree. Fr. Luke is publishing a book titled "Baptising Harry Potter: A Christian Reading of Harry Potter". "I do not think there is any intelligent view out there that says these books are evil. They are the sort of objections that come from people who have not read them. I don't feel at all that the books were leading children away from Christian spirituality. They are full of Christian themes of love and sacrifice," he said. -Mugglenet.

JK Rowling Cafe reopens

The cafe where JK Rowling originally started writing the Harry Potter books is reopening after being a chinese buffet. The owner said: “It’s a big space, so we need to make it cosy – we will welcome people to come along and sit all day – and write books if they like." -Mugglenet

Hogwarts construction contiunues

The Orlando Sentinel reports: "The skyline of Islands of Adventure continues to morph as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter goes up. It's fun that you can see Hogwarts from Interstate 4 now, especially in the eastbound lanes. We took the usual counterclockwise spin through Islands on Sunday and construction sounds were evident in a couple of places, including behind the tarps obscuring the Dueling Dragons castle." -Mugglenet http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/features_orlando/2009/11/universal-islands-of-adventure-wizarding-world-of-harry-potter-pictures.html for pictures of the construction.

It's today do celebrate!!!!!

Rowling Denied Presidential Award by Bush Admin

This news initially broke a couple weeks ago but has recently been picked up in various major media outlets. According to a new book by Matt Latimer, who was US President Bush's speechwriter, Bush's administration had denied JK Rowling a Presidential Award because the Potter books promoted witchcraft.

From the BBC:

The claims appear in Latimer's new book called Speechless: Tales of a White House Survivor.

He wrote that "narrow thinking" led White House officials to object to giving Rowling the civilian honour.

The award acknowledges contributions to US national interest, world peace or cultural endeavours.

Thanks to everyone who has e-mailed in with the tip.

Evanna Has CUTE Shoes in That Picture!

Potter actors Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) released 1,000 balloons on Millennium Bridge in London today to celebrate the upcoming Half-Blood Prince DVD release and to kick off a new contest.

The contest, open to anyone 18 or older in the UK, is simple: find one of the black balloons Evanna and Matthew launched today and follow the instructions on the attached card. You'll then be entered into a contest where the winner will receive a trip to the Deathly Hallows set where they'll be turned into a painting!

This is London has video from the balloon launch, which also includes a nice interview with the two actors. They note that Deathly Hallows is going to be "insane" and Evanna reveals that the producers are keeping it true to the book and paying a lot of attention to the final battle. Photos from the event can be seen here on Getty Images.

Lupin's Wifey Talks About Her Hubby

David Thewlis' wife was recently interviewed by The Independent, where she reveals that her hubby will be filming Deathly Hallows through March 2010. DOes anyone actually say hubby? It's such a weird word...

Thewlis is filming the final instalments of Harry Potter until March and Friel [Thewlis] is choosing between scripts which could take her to New Zealand or back to LA in the new year.

Filming is expected to be entirely completed in Spring 2010, and Part 1 will be released on November 19th, 2010.

Yep a fixed date!

Evanna Speaks!

Evanna Lynch recently spoke to EvannaLynchFans.com about perseverance. Is there a song about perseverance? They should right one... Anyway read about it below!

I'm sure many of you have or have had the same dream and have encountered all the apparent obstacles. People like to hype it up and make is sound impossible, unattainable, too good for you... Just the other day I was trying to clean out my desk (anything other than study exactly!) and I came across the letter that I received from the HP casting dept. It was a reply to a tape I sent long before the open audition, long before the release of Goblet of Fire even, on my own initiative. They did reply and kindly told me that there were no openings on the film at the minute and that also nationality played a big role in casting. Plainly put, it looked like the cards were against me and I'm sure I felt that way at the time.

I'm not saying this to big myself up ('cause I know they use this on press releases etc. etc.), I mean to remind you how fine the line is between reaching a goal and not. I wasn't an actress with connections or anything particularly distinguishing. This is why I hate the probability chapter in my maths book. Manifestation doesn't take into account how many chances you have. If it happens it happens and it didn't matter what anyone else told you. Sorry to annoy any mathematicians out there but I don't believe in probability! So strip away all the hype, because anything anyone tells you is just...chat, and it's really up to you and you'll get nowhere if you don't at least believe you deserve everything you dream about.

Harry Potter Keeps Giving Back

Daniel Radcliffe has pledged his support to a national helpline. The charity is called Get Connected and is a helpline for young people age 25 and under who have a problm but do not know where to find help. Dan had this to say about the charity , "I am delighted to pledge my suuport for Get Connected, and mark its 10th anniversary by becoming its first 'best freind'. We live in a world that is so full of choice and information; it is often impossible to know where to turn or what to do. Get Connected is there for young people in need of help no matter what the issue, from eating disorders to abuse, homelessness to pregnancy. I see Get Connected as much more than just a gateway for imformation; it is a friend to thousands of young people across the UK." So way to give back to the community Dan!

Sneak Peak of Rubeus and Harry

There's a brilliant photo of Hagrid and Harry speeding away on Sirius Black's (our namesake!) enchanted motobike.

There were a few pics earlier but here's a really good one.

Read more and learn more here! (WARNING: There are Deathly Hallows Spoilers!).

Rowling VS Meyer- Let's Duke It Out!

So obviously there's a whole bit of controversy about who's better... JK Rowling or Stephenie Meyer. And obviously us being "Siriusly Potter" are going to say JK Rowling. And obviously if you're reading this you're going to agree, cause you're Potter fan, no?

But as the Great GM (Gina Marie) reported earlier, JK Rowling life/biography is being made into a comic book, just like Stephenie Meyer's life had previously been done, though the book isn't out yet.

Obviously the question is... who's book is better? Which author will win? (Cough cough... Jo Rowling...)

And since I've obviously have used the word "obviously" way too much you're gonna vote in the poll to your right!

Jamie Bower-- He's Almost Criminal!

So there's this dude name Jamie Campbell Bower and obviously he's an actor with a name like that, right? So he plays not only Gellert Grindewald and... Caius from Twilight.

So I don't exactly hold anything against because he's in New Moon (sequel to Twilight) but he's practically a criminal because not only has read all the Twilight books... but he hasn't read all the Harry Potter books! That IS criminal in my mind! Not the Twilight thing, but the Harry Potter thing!!!

Anyhoo, he's one of the lucky ones who gets a taste of both wizards and vampires... the only other one that I can think of being the Robert Pattinson himself (whom we all know was better as Cedric!).

So he sat down for an interview (two actually) that you can read here! And here...

Emma Watson arrives a Brown University

Emma Watson stated on her official website that she arrived at Brown University a few days ago.

"I know, according to the papers I was definitely attending both Columbia and Yale but I've finally arrived at Brown University and while I wish that I could be in three places at once I wouldn't believe everything you read! I arrived [last] Tuesday and I'm having the most amazing time. I'm still so excited to be here. I've already met so many incredible people. I'm over my jet lag and now I just want classes to start!!"-Emma Watson from http://www.mugglenet.com/

She wants classes to start, I guess she really is kinda like Hermione!

J.K Rowling is going to be the subject of a comic book

The company that made comic books out of the lives of Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Stephanie Meyer, and Michael Jackson will make a comic book about the life of J.K Rowling.

"The comic, written by Adam Gragg examines Rowling’s middle class upbringing, her time in Portugal teaching English, her meteoric rise with seven immensely successful books adapted into several high-grossing Hollywood blockbusters, and her post-Potter endeavors.“She is a remarkable and multi-dimensional woman,’” Gragg noted, “Learning about who she is and how she struggled to become a success was a truly enlightening experience. Twelve publishers turned her down. If it weren’t for the daughter of a British publisher who liked Rowling’s first chapter of ‘Philosopher’s Stone’, we might never have met Harry Potter.”

What interesting ideas for comic books, no?

Tom Felton Off to A Comic Con

That's right folks, Tom Felton can be found in Atlanta Georgia this weekend at the DragonCon convention. While at the convention, Mr. Felton obliged reporters with some Q and A time, and here is a quote on what he said.

Although Draco Malfoy is considered to be a villain, Felton sees Draco and Harry as two sides of a coin. Harry has good influences around him, but Draco has the worst—his father, Lucius, and Bellatrix, for example. "I think there's some good down inside [Draco] somewhere. A lot ... is left unwritten—where Draco stands [at the end] in all the madness." One drawback to his role is the effect he has on children who visit the set. They're happy to meet Radcliff[e], Grimes [sic], and Watson, but Felton "scare[s] the daylights out of children. They hide behind their parents' legs. It’s a nightmare, but it also means I'm doing something right."

Damn You Mugglenet!

No... we don't actually mean that. We're just jealous because they've got a press pass to the brand new Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We want that.

According to the Orlando Sentinel:

Universal Orlando is preparing to reveal new details about the hugely anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The resort has begun sending out invitations for a Sept. 15 webcast promising a "first-ever glimpse" ot the Wizarding World, which is supposed to open sometime during the first half of 2010. A spokesman for Universal declined to elaborate on the event.

I'm going to work on getting a bit of the action from Mugglenet. That way we can post it on the site!

Those Lucky Canadians...

I envy you Canadians... you lucky folks are going to be able to see "A Year in the Life of J.K. Rowling" which follows the (brilliant) author as she works away at the conclusion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

CBS Newsworld will be airing it Saturday, September 5 at 10 pm ET and Sunday, September 6 at 8 pm ET.

Twilight Has Infultrated Our Schools!!!

Brain Leaf has created a vocbulary workbook for Twlight fans to help study for the SATs. The book is called Defining Twilight. This is a small but clever study aid meant to be used side by side with your own copy of Twilight. Defining Twilight is divided 40 chapters following the novel from beginning to end. Each chapter contains a group of eight words. For each word Leaf cites, he provides a page number where it appears in the novel. After reading the word in context within Meyer's Novel, the reader guesses at its meaning then checks it against Leaf's definition. The books is $9.99 and is aviliab;e through Wiley Publishing Inc. and wherever books are sold.

Eclipse is Filming!

The Twilight Saga's Eclipse has started prinicpal photography with director David Slade. Along the the cast from the other two movies the crew welcomes new cast members. This includes Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria, Xavier Samuel as Riley, Catalina Sandino Moreno as Maria, Jack Hutson as Royce King (who?), Julia Jones as Leah (thank god it wasn't Vannessa Hudgens), BooBoo Stewart as Seth, and Jodelle Ferland as Bree.

More Drug Drama!

Pictures of Josh Herdman, who plays Gregory Goyle ,puffing what looks like a joint have appeared in the British tabliod The Sun. The picture was taken when he was vacationing in Amsterdam holland, where it is legal to smoke cannabis as of last year (2008). A family member tells newspapers "Josh sees himself as one of the boys. He'll join in with whatever anyone's doing - but some fans might be shocked " These images came shortly after fellow HP star Jamie Waylett nearly went to prison after he was caught in possesion of several bags of marijuana. First Crabbe, now Goyle, whats next Malfoy? (No!!!!!!!!)

The Charming and Deadly

Sounds like a soap opera yeah?

Entertainment Weekly has a new feature looking at 17 characters who are deadly but charming, and Lord Voldemort has made their list thanks to the cast who play him in the films:

Known as the Dark Lord to those who dare not speak his name, this corrupted wizard represents ultimate evil in the world of J.K. Rowling's magical books. And as played by the regal Ralph Fiennes — with childhood assists from young actors like Christian Clouson, Frank Dillane, and Fiennes' own nephew, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin — it's easy to see how Voldemort could seduce anyone to the dark side.

See the rest of the dastardly yet still charming list here!

If you know Lord of the Rings, you know the Hobbit. Well I guess they're making a movie based after the first book in the Lord of the Rings series, and Daniel Radcliffe will not participate... even though he hasn't even been offered a role.

"I'd have to say, 'Thanks but no thanks,' not that anyone has asked me," the 20-year-old actor told me last week in England. "Honestly, I don't think they would want me anyway, it's just too close. Whatever I do next, I don't think there will be any wizards in it!"

I have to say, Dan's kinda already 5'5", who says he's not a hobbit? (All credit to Dean O'Carroll on that one!).

Read more here!

Goblins and Gringotts...

Actor Mike Edmonds, who is set to play one of the Gringotts goblins in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has said the following in a new interview:

"I start filming for Harry Potter in October and I’m really looking forward to it."

Edmonds spoke with media at a local charity bike ride. He is also known for his role as Logray, the Ewok sharman, in Star Wars.

HP Related Crop Circle?

A giant crop circle that looks like an owl has been found in a field in Wiltshire, UK, and there are theories that it's a tribute to Hedwig... or really just Harry Potter.

Steve Killick, a Harry Potter fan, said: "It is very exciting to think that there are fans of Harry from other galaxies.

"Most of the world has fallen in love with Harry Potter so it makes sense that most of the universe will do eventually too."

Pattern expert Karen Alexander dismissed the claims: "The owl is an ancient symbol of wisdom, so perhaps it is a message to people that we should be thinking deeper about the world around us.

"This is obviously a time of some upheaval in the world so perhaps this is a sign that we should be looking backwards for some wisdom in how to deal with today's problems, rather than anything to do with Harry Potter."

HP Changes Religious Views

Over the last several weeks, various news outlets have explored and critiqued Harry Potter and its effects on its readers. Now, we have a new article from the Boston Globe that looks at how the series has won over some religious critics as of late.

“When stories become as popular as the Harry Potter stories, they no longer simply reflect the religious views of the author, but become artifacts of the culture, and they say something about the culture that has embraced them,” Dalton says. “And that is certainly the case with Harry Potter.”

HP Theme Park Update

A video has surfaced providing glimpses of the huge castle under construction and some of the towers.

Also, more photos of snowy Hogsmeade have been found, and can be found here, courtesy of Brianorndorf.com.

Emma Addresses Fans

Emma Watson put this lovely note on her official website.

Hi Everyone,
Back at Leavesden filming HP7 after a frantic publicity week for HP6. It was a great success and thank you for all your support during the tour! It was great fun and I hope you liked the film as much as I did!

Hope you're all enjoying your summer holidays.

Alice Beats Harry?!?!

Okay... so Alice is totally beating Harry on the list.

Don't worry it's not Alice Cullen.

But here's the scoop....

As the summer movie season comes to a close, IMDB is looking toward the most anticipated movies of 2010. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I makes the top 10 list, trailing only Alice in Wonderland.

The movie hits theaters November 19, 2010.

Danny's So Generous!

Daniel Radcliffe recently made a "major donation" to the Trevor Project--"a non-profit organization that operates the only nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth."

"'It's extremely distressing to consider that in 2009 suicide is a top three killer of young people, and it's truly devastating to learn that LGBTQ youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers... It's vitally important that young people understand they are not alone and, perhaps even more important, that their young lives have real value,' said Daniel Radcliffe."

HBP Takes the PRIZE!

So... HBP was nominated in Movies: Summer Action Films for '09, Teen Choice Awards...

And guess who took home the surf board?

Yep! Harry Potter, that's who! So GI Joe, and Star Trek, this is what I say to you.

The awards were held last night and you can watch it tonight at 8 pm ET on Fox!

Evanna SPEAK! Read it!

In a new interview with EvannaLynchFans, Luna Lovegood actress Evanna Lynch talks about the Lovegoods and filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Which part of Deathly Hallows are you most excited about seeing turned into film?

I imagine everyone will say this-the walk through the woods and Platform nine and three quarters... It will be so exciting to see how they translate that experience onto film, to see what someone else made of it. And of course the Lovegood house!! I have seen it being made from scratch and been in it and all around it and it is absolutely beautiful, much more vivid and detailed and alive than anything...I'm so excited just to see Mr.Lovegood in action. Luna has always been so different and jarring to those around her, it will be so nice to see someone with the same energy and hear his lines, you can't beat the Lovegoods for unpredictability.

Check out the rest of the interview here to read more about Evanna Lynch herself and her role in Half-Blood Prince.

The Wonders of IMAX

Ever wonder how they made HBP into an IMAX film?

Probably not. But you can click here to go to Wired.com and see how they did!

“The first step is masking out objects in the scene so that we can turn those objects 3-D,” says IMAX’s Eric Robinson as he shows off the software. “The next step is, re-create the scene in 3-D so that we can generate depth information from that. Our proprietary render system generates a new image, which is offset from the original.”

DH Filming Pictures

A few Deathly Hallows set photos have emerged online from Bovingdon Airfield in England.

The pictures show an open road surrounded on each side by long lines of lighting cranes.

While there is no confirmation, this seems to be set up for more filming of the Seven Potters scene.
