Kids Can't See HBP in Dublin

Well, not everywhere in Dublin. But in the Vue Cinema in Dublin kids who are not above the 18 year old age line cannot see their favorite wizard on the big screen- Harry Potter.

"Vue cinema, in the Liffey Valley shopping centre, has introduced an “adults only” policy for certain films classified 12A or 15A (Half Blood Prince). The cinema chain says the move is a response to complaints from customers about disruptive teenagers.

Children’s rights groups have criticised the policy, saying it is discriminatory and an example of how teenagers are being unfairly targeted. “Going to the cinema is one of the few things that children and teens can do with their time,” said Michael McLoughlin, of Youth Work Ireland."

Harry is on The Wall

While neither is an official wall of fame the walls at Tony’s di Napoli and Sardi's are very important in the theater community. JustJared.com has reported that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) now has him picture on both of those walls. A portrait of him celebrating his work in the Broadway revival of Equus now hangs in Tony's di Napoli and a caricature of him hangs on the wall in Sardi's. They're Bringing Leavesden Back!

Leavesden Studios, the studio lot where they film the Harry Potter Films, is set to reopen in two weeks and not close until Spring 2009 or 2010. The spokesperson said "Filming will commence mid-February and go through to spring 2009." Although we assume she misspoke and meant to say spring 2010. Leavesden closed after the injury of the stunt man last week.

The image to the left of this article is an aerial shot of Leavesden Studios.

People Like To Borrow Harry

The Telegraph reported that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the most borrowed series in the UK with 109,000 borows in a year. We're talking about libraries just so you know, and this is just Book 7! Here's an excerpt. Click here for more.

The Government-funded Public Lending Right - which pays authors for books taken out in public libraries - said choices had been influenced by Richard and Judy, the husband and wife TV presenters. Five of the books named in the top 10 had been featured in their Book Club slot as part of their chat show.

Posters... that Tease You

Three new teaser posters for Half Blood Prince have been released! Two with Harry and one with Dumbledore.

It seems to have a rain theme going on here, I'm guessing it's related to the cave scene in HBP. The picture you'll see to your right is very cool! Dumbledore is reflected in Harry's classes, got to love it.

Rowling Speech Translated

Here is JK Rowling's Speech when She Accepted the French award... translated!

Mr President, Ladies and Gentlemen, please forgive my accent and all the
grammar mistakes that I am about to make. My French is rusty, although I
taught it in Scotland many years ago - but I remember enough of it to be ashamed of my mistakes. First I would like to thank you from the bottom of
my heart for granting me this distinction - it is both extraordinary and
unexpected. I cannot say I think I truly deserve it, but the Legion
d'Honneur has a very special and personal significance to me, as I shall
soon explain. That said, the perspective of visiting the Elysee [the
Presidential palace] and of meeting the President [Nicolas Sarkozy] was
enough to convince me to take on your invitation. I am particularly glad to
obtain this medal in front of young French fans, for their deep attachment
to the series and their many letters have made me happy for years.

As I told you, the Legion d'Honneur carries very special and personal
connotations in my life. My great-grandfather was a Frenchman; his name was
Louis Volant, and he obtained the Legion d'Honneur in 1924 for his courage
in Verdun. Evidently, my own merit is in no way comparable to the bravery
of someone who would sacrifice his life or endure severe injuries in the
name of freedom and justice. However, Louis is an ancestor that I have
always been proud of. I would like to believe that he would be happy to
know there is a second Legion d'Honneur in the family, and that the books
written by his descendent have been enjoyed in his native country. I would
like to take advantage of this opportunity to express my gratitude to
Gallimard [French publisher of HP series]; thank you for supporting Harry
and her creator. Gallimard was the first foreign publisher of the Harry
Potter books, thus holding a very special place in my heart. I would also
like to thank my French readers for not resenting me for giving a French
name to the villain in my books. I can assure you no anti-French feeling is
the reason for this choice. I am a francophile and have always been proud
of it, but I needed a name evoking both power and exoticism. Sadly, I have
to tell you that Voldemort himself is 100% English. I doubt that any of my
next books will ever have the success of Harry Potter, which went beyond my
wildest dreams. I am very happy with this success and my greatest pride is
to think that thanks to Harry, children have discovered the pleasure of
reading. I will never forget the years when the books were published. They
were the most extraordinary years of my life and an evening like this
confirms, once again, the magical transformation that Harry Potter has
performed in the life of her author. Mr President, thank you again for this
immense honour. It will be a very precious memory for me, as will this
beautiful evening. Thank you.

Everyone likes Harry Potter, the French, the Americans, the British... even Darth Vader.

King Talks Rowling

Author Stephen King has given a new interview that will be released with USA Weekend next month. In the interview he talks about none other than J.K. Rowling (and Stephenie Meyer)! In the interview he says "I think that [my influence on Rowling] has some kind of formative influence the same way reading Richard Matheson had an influence on me, people always say to me, 'Well, what about H.P. Lovecraft?' And the thing was, you read Lovecraft when you were a kid but I never felt that he was speaking my language. It was chillier than my heart was, and when Matheson started to write about ordinary people and stuff, that was something that I wanted to do." To read the article about the interview click here!

Two Harry Potter Actors Nominated!

Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) and David Bradley (Filtch) have both been nominated for Oliver Awards (like the Tony Awards in America). Gambon is nominated as Best Actor for for No Man’s Land at the Duke of York’s and Bradley was nominated as Best Actor for for No Man’s Land at the Duke of York’s as well! Congrats Guys! you can see the full list of nominees here!

JK Rowling Honored in France

JK Rowling is being honored by France by being awarded a French Legion of Honor award, the second in her family after her great-grandfather was awarded in World War I.

Rowling was presented the award by President Nicolas Sarkozy, and said "I cannot say that I think that I truly deserve it, but the Legion of Honor has a particular and personal meeting."

She also thanked her French readers for not being angry since the bad guy has a French name-- Lord Voldemort, though "Voldemort himself is 100-percent English" she said.

Emma Vows Not to Go Nude... and Vanessa might be Leah

Two pieces of news in one link. It's like an extra slice of pie!

Anyway, in Access Hollywood article Emma Watson (Hermione) has stated she doesn't plan to go nude just to get away from the role of Hermione (cough Equus cough). "I might be willing to take my clothes off for a Bernardo Bertolucci film, if it was a part that really made sense as part of my character. But I wouldn't do it just to make a point, to move on from Hermione."

Emma is smart. That's all I'm going to say.

And next, it seem that Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical isn't going to be Leah Clearwater... yet. "I'm not sure about [final] casting but I had heard Vanessa Hudgens was going up for the of Leah [Clearwater, a werewolf.]" said screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg. One of the main reasons it isn't final is because Leah isn't seen until Eclipse, so when it come we'll see.

Emma Heads to Harvard(?)

According to the Press Trust of India, their are rumors that Emma might be heading to Harvard.

"The News of the World" reported that Emma apparently took the entrance exam for Harvard at a private center in London last week.

Now we're not sure if this completely true, seeing as she was thinking Cambridge according to earlier reports, but who knows? She's also considering Brown and Yale, other Ivy League colleges.

New Matt Lewis Interview

There is a new fan chat interview with Matt Lewis from Castle White Fang. In the interview he said "Deathly Hallows is going to be so much fun to shoot. I don't have a script yet so I can't be exactly sure how everything is going to work out... The scene I'm looking forward to the most is when Neville swings the sword and kills Nagini. That is going to be intense! In fact, the whole final battle sequence is going to be amazing. Still can't believe they're going to trust me with a sword though!" I'm so glad that he loves Neville as much as we do!

JKR is Popular with Printers

According to dailyrecord.co.uk J.K.R. is to be honored for her "positive impact" in the printing industry. Considering 400 million Harry Potter books have been printed to date I'd say she did give them a bit of a boost! She will be honored at the a trade fair for print technology companies in the UK. You can see this article here!
